Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It is the active ingredient in Wegovy, Ozempic, and Rybelsus.

Online, it comes in three forms: compounded weekly injections, oral or sublingual tablets, and brand-name Wegovy. Price and FDA status differ sharply between them. That is what this page compares.

What is semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist: a once-weekly injectable (or, in some formulations, a daily tablet) that mimics a gut hormone released after eating, slowing stomach emptying and reducing appetite. Novo Nordisk sells it under three brand names, and the difference between them is the approved indication rather than the molecule. Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management, Ozempic for type 2 diabetes, and Rybelsus is the oral tablet for type 2 diabetes.

Compounded semaglutide is the same molecule prepared by a compounding pharmacy rather than Novo Nordisk. It is not an FDA-approved finished product: the agency does not review it for safety, effectiveness or quality. That regulatory difference, not a difference in the molecule, is what the price gap on this page reflects. The other tirzepatide-based drugs, Zepbound and Mounjaro, are a different molecule.

Which forms of semaglutide can you get online?

Three forms, three very different price points. All counts and prices below are computed from our verified provider database.

*"Programs from" is each form's lowest verified program starting price: the provider's all-in headline, not a quote for that specific medication. For the oral and brand-name rows, the qualifying medication can cost more than the program's starting price (the cheapest verified brand-name Wegovy price we track is $149/mo, via Hers), see each provider's review for the per-medication breakdown.

Where can you get compounded injectable semaglutide online?

The weekly injection is the form studied in STEP-1 and the most common online. 48 verified programs offer it, sorted cheapest first.

Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved. It is prepared by licensed pharmacies under patient-specific prescriptions (Section 503A).

How much weight do people lose on semaglutide?

In the STEP-1 trial (NEJM 2021), adults on weekly 2.4mg semaglutide lost an average of 14.9% of body weight over 68 weeks, versus 2.4% on placebo.

That is a trial average, not a promise. Individual results vary with dose, adherence, and lifestyle changes.

Tirzepatide, a dual-receptor alternative, produced up to 20.9% weight loss in SURMOUNT-1 (NEJM 2022), though its programs usually cost more per month.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest way to get semaglutide online?+
The cheapest verified all-in semaglutide program is Embody at $69/month, including medication, consultation, and shipping. Compounded injectable programs start at $69/month all-in. We compared 53 verified programs and sorted every table by total monthly cost.
Is compounded semaglutide FDA-approved?+
No. Compounded semaglutide is NOT FDA-approved. It is prepared by state-licensed compounding pharmacies under a patient-specific prescription (Section 503A). It uses the same active ingredient as Wegovy, but the finished product is not reviewed by the FDA, and quality control varies by pharmacy.
Do semaglutide tablets work as well as injections?+
It depends on the tablet. The brand-name Wegovy oral pill is FDA-approved for weight loss. Compounded sublingual drops and dissolving tablets are not FDA-approved and have no published large-scale trial data: absorption differs from the approved formulations. The 14.9% average weight loss figure comes from the weekly injection studied in STEP-1.
How much weight can you lose on semaglutide?+
In the STEP-1 trial (NEJM 2021), adults taking weekly 2.4mg semaglutide lost an average of 14.9% of body weight over 68 weeks, versus 2.4% on placebo. That is a trial average, not a guarantee: individual results vary with dose, adherence, and lifestyle.
Is compounded semaglutide still legal in July 2026?+
Patient-specific compounding remains available, with caveats. The FDA proposed permanently removing semaglutide from the 503B bulk compounding list (published May 1, 2026); the public comment period closed July 30, 2026 (Docket FDA-2018-N-3240). Bulk compounding has been under enforcement since the shortage resolved in 2025. Providers on this page use 503A patient-specific prescriptions from licensed pharmacies, which remain available under narrower criteria.
Can you get brand-name Wegovy for less than list price online?+
Yes. Wegovy lists at $1,349/month, but self-pay channels are far cheaper: NovoCare Pharmacy, Novo Nordisk's own direct channel, starts at $199/month for the pen and $149/month for the oral pill, both dose-dependent and prescription-required (verified 2026-08-07). Hers offers the Wegovy pen or pill at $149/month through its 2026 Novo Nordisk partnership. With commercial insurance and the Wegovy savings card, copays can drop to $25/month.
