On May 1, 2026, the FDA proposed excluding tirzepatide from the 503B bulk compounding list. The public comment period closed July 30, 2026, extended from June 29 via Federal Register 2026-12937.
If finalized, 503B outsourcing facilities cannot compound tirzepatide in bulk. Patient-specific 503A compounding can remain available under narrower clinical-need criteria, but pharmacy and prescription pathways vary by provider and must be verified individually.
After the July 30 deadline, the FDA will review public comments. A final rule is expected within 60-90 days, after which 503B facilities will have a short compliance window to wind down bulk tirzepatide production.
